Vertex Pharmaceuticals – Providence, RI – The M&S Engineering Scientist II will develop mathematical models based on structural and tissue mechanics to understand the mechanical and biological interactions of implantable device with native tissues. The incumbent will integrate data-driven biomechanics, musculoskeletal, and FEA simulation to develop a device design platform that will accelerate ideation phase, enable new material selection, eliminate failure modes, and lead into designing patient-specific immunoprotected device solution… and develop FEA-based structural models to evaluate biomechanical compatibility based on anisotropic nonlinear material behavior of device components and implant environment. In collaboration with Translational Engineering group, establish in vitro mechanical testing methods to characterize the mechanical properties of biological soft tissue, study structural behavior of implant materials, and design test strategies optimize implant performance.
