Jeffrey Gitomer Answers a Question about New Sales Jobs | Sales Training

Jeffrey,

I am starting a new sales job this year and was wondering if you could offer any tips on how to best assimilate yourself into a new position as quickly as possible.

. . .

Dude, why aren’t they training you? Go to GitomerVT.com and jump on to my training and have everyone of your people jump onto my training as fast as you possibly can. But, here’s something you will not find in the training: go visit 10 of your existing customers, whether they’re yours or not, just something from the company and find out why they bought, find out how they use, find out what’s most important to them, so that you can begin to build your sales presentation around what customers have bought rather than what you’re training department thinks you should go out and sell. People don’t like to be sold, but they love to buy.

If you want to assimilate yourself, you better find out what people bought from you, why they bought it and how they love it now that they have it.
