At the start of your job interview, the hiring manager will welcome you before saying, please tell me about yourself.
They will ask you this question at the start of your job interview because they want to assess your English communication skills, confidence and quickly determine if you have the skills, qualifications and enthusiasm to do the job.
When answering the interview question, tell me about yourself in English, I recommend you talk about the following 4 things.
#1. The SKILLS you have that are a match for the job role. The best skills to mention in your answer are, collaborative working (which is working closely as a team), problem solving, creativity (which is bringing new ideas to the company) and communication skills, which is being able to speak and write clearly and professionally.
#2. The second thing to talk about when answering the question, tell me about yourself in English for job interviews, is your EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND and any EXPERIENCE you can bring to the position. You only have to briefly mention the college or university you attended, and the grades attained.
#3. Next, the third thing to discuss in your answer, is details of any ACHIEVEMENTS you have gained in life. The achievements can come from your work or personal life. Talking about your achievements when answering the question, TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF, tells the hiring manager you are a high-achiever.
Examples of achievements include:
o Outstanding academic grades;
o Winning team sports events;
o Receive praise from previous managers, or;
o Raising money for good causes.
#4. And finally, the fourth thing to discuss in your English answer to the question, TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF, is the TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE and what you will do for their company if they hire you. The best thing to say is that you will be a good role model for the company, set a good example to others and take responsibility for your professional development.
To recap, the four things to talk about in your English answer to the question, TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF, are your Skills, Education and Experience, Achievements and the Type of person you are.
Those 4 things stand for S.E.A.T. You can remember this because you will be sitting down on a SEAT at your job interview.
